The First Capital Bank (formerly First Merchant Bank) Sponsored Under-20 Football League came out triumphant at the Malawi Sports Awards which were held on Friday 9th March, 2018 at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC). First Capital Bank was nominated for the Best Executed Sports Development Program of the Year; also nominated in the same category were the Regional 5 Under-20 Youth Games and the Golf Youth Program.

The award was handed to First Capital Bank by the National Youth Football Association (NYFA) on Tuesday 13th March, 2018 as a way of showing their appreciation and gratitude to First Capital Bank for the consistent support and sponsorship of the league. The award comes as a great honor as it symbolizes the impact the First Capital Bank league has had on football in Malawi. The league started with 3 districts and is now currently in 12 districts with a minimum of 15 teams in each district. The biggest youth football league in Malawi.

In addition, awards were also given to the Under-17 National Football Team for National Team of the Year (which is dominated by players from the First Capital Bank League),the Male Sportsman of the Year was won by Peter Banda(who was also the player of the Tournament for the 2017 First Capital Bank U-20 League finals and Coach of The year award was given to Griffin Sayenda Jr who is the owner and coach of the 2017 First Capital Bank Under 20 National Champions, Griffin Young Stars.

All of these achievements show how much of a pleasure it is to have such a great and rewarding impact in sports development in Malawi.
